The 11th Annual Rocky Mountain Sale

The 2002 Rocky Mountain Miniature Donkey Sale will be held, Saturday, July 6th, 3:00 pm at the Cooke farm near Blackie, Alberta, Canada. This annual event has been a " social gathering of donkey enthusiasts" for the past 11 years.

The Cooke family is committed to making this weekend an enjoyable time for everyone who can attend. Visitors are welcome to view the donkeys anytime. The Rocky Mountain Sale donkeys will be washed and in their stalls by noon Friday, July 5 and everyone is welcome to visit throughout the day. The annual steak dinner, hosted by the Consignors and Circle C, will take place on Friday, July 5th at 1:00 pm. We hope that you can join us for dinner!

The open house will continue Saturday, July 6th, 9:00 am until sale time. The measuring of the sale donkeys will be at 1:00 pm. This is a great opportunity to view the sale donkeys in a relaxed atmosphere and enjoy some refreshments. After the measuring Auctioneer, Frank McInenly will be available to meet any potential buyers who are not familiar with auction bidding and answer any questions. At 3:00pm "the Rocky Mountain Sale" starts!

After the Sale everyone is invited to stay for an Alberta beef dinner and refreshments. This is a great time to visit with new friends and donkey breeders.

Another feature event held on July 6th will be "the Silent Auction" sponsored by the Calgary Stampede Miniature Donkey Committee. All proceeds from this fun auction go to help fund the Calgary Stampede Show and donkey research. There will also be other vendors selling donkey art and equipment. You will find some truly unique donkey items offered for sale so plan to check out the selection early.

After dinner the Miniature Donkey Promotional Group will host "the 3rd Annual Miniature Donkey Lottery". The donkey Lottery has proven to be an event enjoyed by all. It is a great opportunity to view about 20 great miniature donkeys. Only 100 tickets will be printed and they will be sold for $100.00 each. There is drama and fun as the Lottery tickets are drawn one by one. The last ten ticket holders will each receive a prize. Then the owner of the final Lottery ticket to be drawn will be able to select the donkey that they like best and take it home! What a great opportunity! The funds raised from the Lottery go towards supporting Miniature Donkey Shows in Alberta, promoting donkeys and supporting donkey research.

All donkeys entered in the Rocky Mountain Sale will be exportable and the owners will provide any necessary health export papers including a negative coggins document.

On Sunday, July 7th, guests are invited to a Continental Breakfast at 11:00 am at Cooke Livestock. Following this there will be a seminar presented by Norm Pederson on " How to start a driving donkey". This is a very useful and informative seminar. This is also a good time for the new owners to get to know their donkeys and get ready for the Calgary Stampede Show. At 4:30 AM the Cooke livestock crew will load up the show donkeys and head for the Calgary Stampede show!

Many of the sale donkeys will have been entered in the Calgary Stampede World Miniature Donkey Show and they will be delivered to the Stampede show for their new owners. This is a unique opportunity to buy a donkey that is ready for a world class show and to show it at the famous Calgary Exhibition & Stampede.

You are invited to attend this fun filled weekend at the Rocky Mountain Miniature Donkey Sale - don't forget to bring your show clothes!!
