Recipe
of the Month
This sociable beverage has been enjoyed by the grown-ups at Cooke
Livestock for many years. The recipe comes from one of Grant’s
sisters and it is the perfect drink to relax with on the veranda
after a long day in the sun, or at a get-together with friends. Slush
does need some time to freeze, so be sure to plan accordingly,
and you won’t be disappointed!
“Slush”
3 cups sugar
8 cups water
1- 48oz size of pineapple juice (Dole brand is the best)
1 - 26oz bottle vodka or gin
1- 6oz can of frozen lemonade (softened)
1- 12oz can of frozen orange juice (softened)
2 ripe bananas (peeled)
Boil the sugar and water together for fifteen minutes to make
a simply syrup. Let cool to room temperature and add the
pineapple juice and vodka. Set aside.
In a blender, combine the orange juice and lemonade with the bananas,
and blend until smooth. Combine the two mixtures in a large
container (an ice cream pail works great) and freeze overnight.
To serve, fill a glass half full of “slush” and then
top it up with Ginger ale, 7-Up or Sprite. Garnish with
mint leaves and enjoy.
“Children seldom misquote you. In fact, they usually
repeat
word for word what you shouldn't have said.”
