Donkey's In Action

Here are some photos from the CDE that we attended in June.  A "CDE Show" is a Combined Driving Events show which includes 3 competitions: a Dressage driving competition, driving through a cones pattern and a marathon drive on a rustic trail with hazards.  We sure had a fun day.  Thanks to Wendy Lyon who was our groom.  Wayne Lyon & Sharon Cooke along with the two pairs and the beautiful cart were show stoppers! As you can imagine this takes a lot of training and conditioning for the donkeys. Many compliments....but more importantly tons of fun with the dressage, cones and marathon.

The carriage was custom made for Grant & Sharon by "Horse Power Concepts". You can visit them by looking on our "Web Links" site.  It is made out of aluminum in order to be light enough for a driving pair of Miniature Donkeys. We have a team of 4 black, black nosed geldings going together.

Circle C Napoleon & Stonegate Acres Eclypse (both sired by Red Lightening). This was the start of the Marathon class in which the horses/donkeys were required to trot a 5 Km trail and go through major hazards, including bridges, water, mud and 4 obstacle courses.

Ready for the Dressage test:  Circle C bred geldings, The Spotlight & Circle C Traveller. Both are sired by Little Motown.  These gelding are powerful and can really move out.

Northern Oasis Lacy is a 3 year old black jennet who has gone to a wonderful home in the foothills west of Calgary, Alberta.  Lacy was originally purchased to be the companion to TJ, an aging horse.  She has now become part of the family and loves to take young children for rides on her back.  Also Lacy allows Kaiya, the Great Dane, to give her kisses and be her buddy.  You often see the three of them together out in the field.  Lacy is sired by Little Motown and our of an Eagles Nest Exotic jennet.  She has a wonderful disposition and is a very thoughtful jennet.  Next summer the plans are to start driving Lacy.  Thank you, Gabriella Sladkova, for selecting Lacy to be your special donkey.
Frank O'Sullivan and Red Lightening enjoy some conversation with Krista Cooke and Douglas J Henderson on a sunny Alberta morning.  They reflected on the Miniature donkey industry and life in general.  Frank enjoyed touring around Alberta and visiting the famous Banff Resort area.
